Dr. Ferdinand Porsches' suggestion for a new German heavy tank in 1942 was not accepted and the majority of the produced chassis were converted to Ferdinand/Elefant tank destroyers. Only five prototypes remained. This model is built the other way round: the Italeri Elefant kit is backdated to a Tiger (P) by incorporating a modified Revell Tiger turret, scratch-building the hull top and rear and adding some details from the spares box, stretched sprue etc. Special thanks to Bram Corts and Björn Bäcklund for information on the subject.
