This etched brass fret is Ace's early war 550-mm
wide tracks for the 1/72 scale UM and Dragon T-34 Model 1940 and
model 1941 T-34-76 models. These tracks are particularly good for
UM's T-34 model 1940 which comes with a 1942-43 track pattern. If
you look closely you will see that these ACE tracks have little
tread pattern which is characteristic of the early T-34s. I understand
that the lack of good grip on hard surfaces like ice necessitated
a tread pattern of ridges to be cast in T-34 tracks in 1942. I think
it would be unusual to see these tracks on a mid and late war T-34,
particularly a T-34-85.
The instructions are clear and folding the tracks over with the
raised track teeth should not be difficult. Detail looks good. There
appears to be enough track for one 1/72-scale model. ACE's copper-colored
brass sheet appears heavier and thicker than the brass sheet used
by Eduard and by PART; it appears similar to metals used by UM in
their kits.
