Back to Modeling the Sd.Kfz. 234 in 1/72nd Scale
Probably the most
well-known of the 234 series is the Sd.Kfz. 234/2, known
by hobbyists today as the Puma (that was not its official
name). This was the first design of the 234 series
produced, and was originally designated as simply the
Sd.Kfz. 234 until the new designs came about, at which
time its designation was changed to 234/2. Armed with a
high-velocity 50mm KwK, this was the scout version of the
234. Although it was fast, the cannon was not worth much
in the later stages of the war, and construction of this
version ended fairly early with all later chassis being
built into the other, more useful variants. Probably
around half of the 100 vehicles built were equipped with
the long-range radio sets. The MarS, Hasegawa, and Roden
kits include the additional antenna mount for this
version, but although the Italeri boxart shows this
antenna, it does not, in fact, include the appropriate
parts.
