Pz.Kpfw.IV & Jagdpanzer IV late exhaust |
In this
set, JK Resin gives us 6 Flammentöter, i.e. the late style of individual
exhaust on the Panzer IV and its derivatives (like the StuG IV and Jagdpanzer
IV).
This is enough to equip 3 vehicles. Dimensions
According to PzTracts 4-3, there were are least two different sized
Flammentöter: one tall and narrow and one short and wide. The
scale drawings In PzTracts 4-3 only show (what I believe is) the tall
version and scale out at: Length: 571 mm - Diameter: 147mm
While
PzTracts often gives separate drawings that show details of a tank,
this is not offered for the Flammentöter, and, given their position,
measuring their length accurately on the scale
drawings is not that easy. Neither are the following kit parts easy
to measure, but I gave it a try
JKT72055: Length: 450mm - Diameter: 164mm
Revell 03122 PzIV Ausf J: Length: 348 mm - Diameter: 137mm
Dragon 7260 StuG IV Late: Length: 503mm - Diameter: 148.3mm
Dragon 7293 JagdPz IV L/70 late: Length: 448mm - Diameter: 162mm
It is
remarkable that two very similar Dragon kits have different parts
for the Flammentöter, but I believe this actually captures the
difference between both versions rather well, even if I don’t
have measurements of the short/fat version.
Dimension-wise the JK parts are very close to the Dragon Jagdpanzer
parts and would thus suit the short/fat version.
The Revell parts are both too short and too narrow to represent any
variant.
While Revell’s parts are just solid cylinders, the Dragon parts
are hollow and have the internal fluting. The JK parts are also hollow
with internal detail, but are infinitely more delicate than the Dragon
parts.
While the JK and Revell parts are correctly angled outwards (at about
30°), the Dragon parts seem to be molded almost vertically.
Conclusion:
while the Dragon parts are acceptable, the JK Resin parts are an improvement.
In case of the Revell kit, they are almost a must. - R.

20 ltr. jerrycan |
15
resin German jerrycans. Very delicately cast with fine detail. Probably
the first jerrycans in 1/72 ever to feature three open and separate
handles. Comes with a small decal sheet for 6 two-sided white crosses
(indicating that the can held water).-
